How to Choose High-Quality Sunglasses to Avoid Sunburn?

The primary function of high-quality sunglasses is to block ultraviolet (UV) rays. When choosing sunglasses, check if the lenses are clearly labeled UV400 or block 99–100% of UVA/UVB rays.

The darkness of the lens tint does not directly determine the level of protection: dark lenses without a UV coating offer no protection, while light-colored lenses with a UV coating are equally safe.

Another key point is lens coverage and fit—larger lenses or curved lenses reduce UV rays entering from the sides or top of the frame. For highly reflective environments such as beaches, mountains, and driving, prioritize polarized lenses to reduce horizontal glare, thereby reducing indirect sunlight exposure around the eyes (helping to reduce the risk of sunburn).

Which material is lightweight for eyeglasses?

Among common frame materials, titanium alloy (especially β-titanium/titanium) and TR90 (high-elasticity nylon polymer) are the two lightest.

Titanium alloys combine lightweight strength, corrosion resistance, and hypoallergenic properties; TR90 is known for its ultralightness, outstanding flexibility, and impact resistance, and is easy to stain and inexpensive, making it suitable for sports and children's wear.

If we define lightest in terms of lens material, PC (polycarbonate) lenses are lighter and more impact-resistant than glass, but their optical clarity is inferior to high-refractive-index resin lenses.

For ultimate lightweight durability, choose a TR90 frame with PC or high-refractive-index resin lenses; for a high-end, lower-allergy-risk, and still lightweight option, choose a titanium alloy frame with thin, high-refractive-index lenses.

  • Driving: Polarized lenses significantly reduce road and water reflections; gray and brown lenses are preferred for accurate color reproduction. Avoid overly dark lenses that could impair visibility in low light.
